We can handle your products travelling on the water using our own facilities, particularly our port terminals, and include our partners all round the world; we can also organise the necessary pick-up and final delivery runs beyond the quayside. FAQs

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Got any questions? Here’s a list of some general questions, kindly go through them, maybe you get your answer here.

    What is Transloading?

If a shipment is traveling a long way from the port to the final destination by truck, the shipment will likely go to a warehouse, and transload the cargo into a truck to avoid expensive per diem charges.

Transloading is the process of moving a shipment from one mode of transport to another form, for example, moving from an ocean container to truck or rail. The most common use of transloading is when a container is picked up from port, brought to a warehouse, unloading it, and then reloading the cargo into a truck for final delivery.

What type of materials are tranported via transloading?

There are no material restrictions when it comes to shipping goods using transloading methods. Industries in aerospace, military, communications, construction, chemical, food, retail, and many others can utilize transloading strategies. Some of the most common types of goods shipped may involve, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Construction materials: Lumber, metals, cinderblocks, bricks, sheetrock, loose gravel, and natural stones
    • Warehouse merchandise:Palletized freight, shipping containers, boxes, general merchandise, small appliances, and equipment.
    • Oversized cargo: Military equipment, military vehicles, aerospace components, telecommunication equipment, transformers, heavy machinery.
    • Specialized freight: Hazardous chemicals, hazardous materials, cryogenic materials, temperature-sensitive/climate-controlled shipments.

    Is Transshipping and Transloading same?

Transloading should not be mistaken for transshipment. Transshipment is the process of transporting shipment from one intermediate location to another with only one mode of transportation. This can sometimes cause delays as one mode of transportation can lead to minor scheduling issues. It can also limit destinations, as some rails might not be accessible in certain areas.

Transloading refers to the process of transporting containers, cargo, or freight from one method of transportation (vessel, airplane) to another (railcar, truck-bed). Transloading is recommended when more than one mode of transportation is required for the entire duration of the shipment. It is most commonly used when shipping internationally, and across different types of geographical challenges. The entire process will sometimes call for a limited and short amount of warehousing, on a need by need basis. There are many steps within a transloading process, and Logify is here to help. We provide a wide range of transportation services and offer supply chain management for all your shipping needs.

What is transshipment bill of lading? When does transshipment bill of lading release?

Transshipment bill of lading is another type of bill of bill of lading.

Some times, the shipping company (carrier of goods ) may not have direct service from shipper’s place to consignee’s destination. The cargo is transshipped from the intermediate port. In such cases, all transshipment expenses are met by ship owner or his agent, who accepted the goods at port of loading. When transshipping goods, a bill of lading is issued by the vessel owner or his agent who transship the goods. This is called ‘transshipment bill of lading’.
